This thread matches a lot of my feelings about Boston sports, with a few minor differences, which I'll list in my own thread starting from this quote-tweet: @FilmCritHULK/1092550852252823552

1. Hulk is a bit older than I am. I was born in 1991, so I don't even remember the Larry Bird era of the Celtics. Before 2001 the only sport I paid attention to was baseball since that's what my Grampa always had on whenever my brother and I went up to his house
-
During the Patriots' 2001-2002 I was in 5th grade, so instead of celebrating on the Boston streets it was mostly just passing around a VHS someone had taped of the game between people at my school, and poring over the box scores in @ConMonitorSport|s.
-
2. Hulk is now in LA. Unlike him, I haven't moved out of New England. I did spend college in DC, but that wasn't long enough to become a DC sports fan. I did go to a Nationals' game once, but didn't get attached.
-
And there's no amount of time I could have spent in DC that would have ever turned me into a Redskins fan. Even besides the bad name, they're just a bad team. They don't have many fans even in DC. The DC schools I worked in had as many Cowboys fans as Redskins fans.
-
3. A big part of my Boston sports fandom comes from my Grampa, who I really loved. Unfortunately, he died around the time I moved back to NH from college. This was around the same time Hulk was describing his own erosion of the Boston sports experience.
-
So for me, the erosion of my enthusiasm for Boston sports is less about other people becoming jerks, and more about losing the main person I enjoyed sharing my sports-rooting experiences with.
-
Also, despite enjoying Boston sports less now, as is the case with him, I haven't found any other team to switch to. Maybe if Montreal still had the Expos… or, I guess since the @FisherCats are a farm team for the Blue Jays, I could switch to them… I dunno.
-
I've also developed depression this decade, so I just don't really care as much any longer. It's easier to just go with the flow. Which, since I'm still in NH, means continuing "rooting" for Boston. Whatever "rooting" means these days...

Anyways, that's my addition to @FilmCritHULK's thread. Be sure to read the whole thing of what he originally wrote.
