So, uh, yeah, that was certainly... interesting, to say the least. One of the most interesting campaign events I've been to, actually. Mini-thread from the notes I took on it incoming...

            - Instead of having canned music playing over speakers like most campaigns usually have, the Gabbard campaign had a left-handed guy named "Shadow" with long black hair and a matching long black goatee playing some acoustic guitar for us while we waited for the event to start

          - This is the only campaign event I've been to that I can remember where we said the Pledge of Allegiance - Tulsi wasn't actually there herself; this was a livestreamed @zoom_us videochat on a projector with a camera on our room so she could see us. And also Kim Iversen

        - The guy from her campaign MC-ing the event (also named "Eric") was a former Gary Johnson staffer from 2016 apparently - In a quick show-of-hands for party I.D., we discovered that there were at least as many Libertarians in the room as Democrats… not many Republicans tho

      - Being a videochat, there were technical difficulties, as might be expected from the complicated setup with Tulsi, Kim, and our room all turning ourselves off and on again - We still got in a brief Q&A with audience questions anyways tho... including one from me!

    - My question was on India & the protests/riots over the new Modi/BJP citizenship law. She kinda dodged w/talk about how it's their internal domestic affairs, which was making me think I shoulda phrased it more pointedly, at least, that is, until… (tweet break to build suspense)

…some protesters coincidentally stormed to the front of our room on that very topic! They were mostly Indian (with a few white guys), trying to get signs that said "Tulsi whitewashes India's KKK" & "Tulsi tell the truth about India's RSS" in front of our webcam…

…there was a bunch of commotion as her staff tried to restrain them and keep them out of view, with lots of accusations of assault being thrown around, as the feed from our webcam was cut so that that part wouldn't be livestreamed. So yeah, they kinda made my point for me.

Anyways I swear that was a complete coincidence. I didn't know any of them and they didn't know me. I don't even know how we both independently thought to bring that topic up, considering the primary topic of tonight was Iran (I still think Tulsi is good on Iran btw)

So, now that I've got the excitement out of the way, back to random notes: - Tulsi wasn't actually using her own account for the video call, she was using that of her husband and videographer, Abraham Williams

              - The Gabbard campaign's pledge cards were interesting; instead of being a set of checkboxes for what you can do (phonebank, canvass, etc.) like most candidates have, they left it open-ended, where you can write your own ideas for what you can do - I met @jadafromnola afterwards

...so yeah, that's it! Definitely a memorable experience. I'm glad I went.
