  1. The thing that's weird about this to me, is that I haven't really seen anyone's political views change as they get more educated. To me this seems to indicate that it's not that getting educated turns ppl further left, but rather ppl who're further left go onto get more educated: @chrislhayes/1323842105156972544

like, I've been towards the left end of the Democratic spectrum since middle school! If I'd dropped out of school during middle school, I'd still likely have the same views I have now! In fact, I'd say that going to college at @GWtweets actually almost turned me more to the right

there were a lot of elites pushing things like deficit hawkery there, and I also almost became a GamerGater/MRA while I was there. It wasn't until I moved back to my home community in NH that I returned back to my leftier/socialist-ier politics of my youth.

Actually, I guess that's not entirely true. I did participate in the Occupy protests while in DC, and those kept me on the left. Also witnessing the extremes of inequality and segregation that still existed in the DC school system kept me left, too.

And for every elite professor and congressional staffer impressing me with intelligent-sounding neoliberal centrism, there was an elite classmate disgusting me with the callousness and out-of-touchness that underlaid those same elite ideologies.

Hearing a rich roommate whine after Hurricane Sandy that FEMA didn't cover second homes probably did more to radicalize me than anything I learned in any of my college classes.
