                          1. New thread for a new day of suffering. At least we have a deadline to be out of here earlier today. #NHPolitics

4 birthdays today! (Mine is in 8 days)

omg STFU Speaker Packard, you don't get to order us around. #NHPolitics

you should be speaking FOR us, not TO us. #NHPolitics

Classic "mistakes were made" (verbatim!) phrase to avoid responsibility for how poorly he ran the session yesterday. #NHPolitics

Well at least he seemed willing to be give a bit with extending his hand to Renny. #NHPolitics

First order of business is approval of the revenue estimates. #NHPolitics
            1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Motions to approve and table the revenue estimates are approved and tabled unanimously on voice vote. Now onto HB586, the housing bill from my committee that we postponed from yesterday. #NHPolitics
          1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Someone is already trying to table it. No, representative, this bill does NOT need work, we have already done plenty on it. #NHPolitics
        1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
motion to table HB586 passes 175-172; wtf. I thought we had bipartisan support on this one. #NHPolitics
      1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Now we're onto HB81, the GOP's evil bill to let them run over pedestrians. I really hope we can defeat this one. #NHPolitics
    1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Phew, we actually tabled it (HB81) by a large margin. I wonder what the "new information" mentioned was... #NHPolitics
  1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Next up is HB197, another GOP bill to expand use of deadly force. For a party that's supposedly "pro-life" they sure do seem to like to find new reasons to make it legal to kill people. #NHPolitics
    1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
      Welp, H.B. 197 passes. I hate it here. #NHPolitics
      1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Next up is HB365, which would give peace officer status to federal law enforcement officers. Dems on the committee were split on this, but given how the Feds were sent into Portland Oregon last year, I'm going to oppose this. #NHPolitics
        1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Ok we killed that bill. Pretty sure I managed to vote "yes" on the motion to ITL. Next up is HB564, Rep. Espitia's bill to ban rubber bullets and tear gas. This is a good bill; we should pass this. #NHPolitics
          1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
...or table it, I guess. Weird how we're using tabling as a way to save this bill when we used it as a way to kill previous ones. #NHPolitics
            1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Oops, there's my first time getting called out for forgetting to vote! Sorry, I thought I had pressed "yes" already.
              1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Motion to table fails, guess we're going to continue debating this... #NHPolitics
                1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
We failed to stop the motion to ITL HB564; oh well, guess the cops will continue rubber-bulletting us and teargassing us. Onto the bills from the Education Committee. #NHPolitics
                  1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
First up from education is HB110, which would create administration headaches for school officials. I'm going to oppose it. #NHPolitics
                    1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Thank you for this PI ("Parliamentary Inquiry") Rep. Ellison! (He's one of my floterial reps and he's great) #NHPolitics
                      1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
HB110 passes. Next is HB194, on release of student assessment info and data. I support data protection and privacy, so I'll be opposing this bill. #NHPolitics
                        1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
HB194 passes. Big win for testing companies, big loss for students. Now onto HB242, which is about the criteria for student adequate education. #NHPolitics

Going back to earlier in this thread to the part about HB81 and HB197, previously I characterized the former as the car-focused one and the latter as the broader one, but after seeing other tweets on the subject, I'm not as sure anymore which was which... oh well. #NHPolitics
                            1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Anyways, back to the current debate on education... I could do an entire thread on this distinction between logic and scientific fact that this rep just drew, but we're pressed for time here. #NHPolitics
                              1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
HB242 passes; Republicans get to use their definition of education adequacy. Meh. #NHPolitics

Motion being made to limit debate. I mean I get it, I don't like it when people go on forever, either, but sometimes it's necessary to do so. Will be voting to table this motion, because we're getting too meta here and need to stop. #NHPolitics
                                  1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
omg we're probably wasting more time debating the amount of time to debate than we'd save from actually limiting it... #NHPolitics

Back to actual bills... Next is HB320, requiring a civics competency, which I thought we already did? #NHPolitics
                                      1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
I'm not necessarily opposed to requiring the citizenship test for students (I've tutored for it and it's pretty easy), but it just seems redundant with the existing civics requirement. Let's just keep our current civics requirement, it's fine as-is. #NHPolitics
                                        1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Also, fun fact, my graduating class (2009) was the last year that didn't have the civics requirement, but I went and took the civics class anyways when it became available. I was the only senior in a class of juniors. #NHPolitics
                                          1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
ok, so the citizenship test bill passes. Which, well, fine. I voted against it because it seemed redundant, but honestly I'm not too upset about it passing because it's not that big a deal. #NHPolitics
                                            1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Next is HB349, on the qualifications required for school nurses. I'm going to trust the NH Nurses Association on this that the current requirements are fine and thus this bill isn't needed, and thus I will be voting against it. #NHPolitics
                                              1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Once again the issue of calls for division votes not being heard comes up. It would be a lot easier to hear if we weren't meeting like this. #NHPolitics
                                                1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Gah. Guess we're going on to HB513, which would give degree-granting authority to Signum University, which... what? I have never heard of this place. I will trust that Rep. Luneau's description of this place is accurate. #NHPolitics
                                                  1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Did this GOP Rep. promoting Signum get his statement written directly by their advertising department? Seems like it could have been. #NHPolitics
                                                    1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
Wait this is a university based off of TOLKEIN?! I mean, I enjoyed Lord of the Rings, but... is this for serious? #NHPolitics

well I guess getting your degree in Advanced Silmarillion Studies is now possible; go figure. (Note: I'm just making assumptions here; it might not actually be possible.) #NHPolitics

Next up is HB609, the GOP attempt to rebrand charter schools as "innovation schools". We aren't falling for it. #NHPolitics

Looks like the GOP will be getting away with their attempt to deregulate public education; sigh. #NHPolitics
