Session again in Beford today; hopefully this’ll be our last time heading down there, & hopefully we can return to the State House in the future. We’ll be voting on reports from the committees of conference, incl. that of the GOP’s horrible budget. Livetweeting here. #NHPolitics
-
gossip I'm hearing is continuing to point towards this prediction coming true: @cooljeanius/1407778222352306180
-
Ok I caught Pastor Bob's last name this time; it's either "Stuart" or "Stewart" (unsure of spelling)
-
National Anthem this time is being performed by a rep playing a trombone
-
New rep Muriel Hall has been sworn in for today's session!
-
Memorializing Rep. Ley now
-
Time to start voting on stuff; first is SB31, which would make voting harder. Voting "no" on it again. #NHPolitics
-
SB31 passes along party lines; boo. I hope Sununu vetoes it, since, I mean, it was his government that allowed the pandemic-related voting changes that this bill is overriding in the first place. #NHPolitics
-
A bunch of measures have been passing quickly on voice vote; I've fallen behind
-
roll call vote being called on Rep. Steven Smith's motion to table SB154, one of those bad gun nut bills. There may be some shenanigans at play here; let's see...
-
Republican vs. Republican P.I.s on this motion
-
Sounds like some Republicans want to table the bill so they can have time to make it worse? (I mean, better from their point of view, but worse from ours)
-
I mean, whatever, we'll join the vote to table, even if it's for different reasons...
-
ok so yeah that was pretty lopsided
-
there's the "gentlemen may remove jackets" motion
-
uh... we seem to be going out of order here? I thought the budget would be next...
-
Yeah I'm confused as to what order we're going in now; somehow we've moved to HB566, on nonpublic sessions...
-
ok NOW we're getting to the budget; apparently we can only do HB1 before lunch because the Senate hasn't actually sent us HB2 yet? Anyways HB2 will be after lunch...
-
There's a lot of people signed up to speak on the budget...
-
The way the budget is split between HB1 and HB2 is leading to some points of order on which one members can speak to currently...
-
IMO, the way the two are heavily related ought to make it allowable to speak to the other when speaking on one, but we'll see...
-
Impressed by @joshuaquerynh's bravery in sharing his story of being exposed to HIV; it's ridiculous how expensive some of the drugs for it are. We need to get health care costs under control, not make them worse like this budget would do. #NHPolitics
-
uh... what was that Rep. Osborne about to say? "Make sure women remain hot... uh, I mean, viable and healthy" I think?
-
Did anyone else catch that or am I just imagining things?
-
Oh wait I think this might actually be Rep. Edwards, not Rep. Osborne?
-
Final speaker on HB1 up now
-
ok time to vote; good question about connectedness of HB1 and HB2, which I'm still not sure I fully understand, either...
-
HB1 passes along party lines; where was the internal GOP revolt we were expecting? Or are they saving that for HB2?
-
Rep. Abramson is still trying to get people to join his "Vegas Caucus"; apparently there haven't been (m)any takers yet...
-
Concord delegation took a photo together; looking forward to how it came out! Dems on my committee are going to try to do likewise
-
Back from lunch; time to start debate on HB2...
-
Rep. Walz is hitting pretty much every bad point in this budget here; there's so much of bad stuff in this bill that it's hard to cover it all.
-
Basically, this budget takes from the poor to give to the rich. The "Reverse Robin Hood" branding we're going for is on-point; I just hope people catch the "reverse" part, as that makes all the difference.
-
Rep. Espitia calling out the "divisive concepts" bullshit in the budget
-
sorry for falling behind here; my connection has been slowing down while I try to download the pictures we took over lunch...
-
...and here's the Dems from my committee! (minus @ivyvann who was on a call) We stood in front of the ambulance because we support municipalities being able to provide emergency services!
-
Rep. @katbeep reveals she has uterine cancer as part of her speech on HB2's attacks on reproductive health care; I hope she defeats it!
-
Rep. Luneau is breaking down HB2's transfers from public schools to private ones and charters now
-
Final speaker on HB2 up next; Rep. Steven Smith is defending his constituents' rights to be greedy and refuse to contribute back to the society in which they live
-
The state's paws aren't "grubby"; we are here to promote the common good. State employees work very hard at their jobs and it's insulting to characterize the taxes that pay their wages as putting "grubby paws" on people's money.
-
The state *is* the people; the people get more of their money when they can use the state to redistribute it more fairly among themselves via taxation, than they would if the rich are allowed to hoard the populace's wealth in private hands.
-
HB2 passes; oh well, so much for any sort of revolt among the GOP like we were hearing rumors of...
-
"print remarks" motion now
-
Speaker Packard: "I'd like to thank the staff, but not by approving of the taxes necessary to pay their wages"
-
Onto HB98, to move the state's local primary elections to August; I actually disagree with the Dem recommendations here and support moving it up.
-
onto HB334; apparently the committee of conference combined the "guns on snowmobiles" bill with the bill to weaken background checks for gun purchases? Anyways both are bad, so I'll be voting against it.
-
Rep. Horrigan is speaking against HB542, a "religious freedom" bill that would turn churches into pandemic-spreading centers.
-
ok I love Rep. Horrigan but tbh he kinda deserves these reminders to stay on topic... Sorry Tim!
-
His general point that it's bad for churches to spread pandemics still stands true, though.
-
I'm definitely looking forward to my church meeting in person in the fall, but I wouldn't have felt safe doing that before getting vaccinated. It's better for churches if people can trust them to be safe spaces, which lockdowns help ensure.
-
oops I forgot to double-check my vote on that; I hope it went thru as "no" like I intended...
-
oh hey apparently we have a veto to override already; the governor's veto of a jet-ski bill
-
ugh some GOP Rep just tried to make some dumb point about climate change; good on the Dem Rep on turning it around on him
-
veto override fails; time to wrap it up now
-
lots of closing speeches today
-
had to cut some of them off; recessing for real now
-
well, the whole House is, at least, a smaller group of us are meeting for a smaller memorial for Doig Ley now
-
oops, typo, that ought to be "Doug"
-
ok time to get out of here
