My #2021FutureSummit Day 2 thread will start from here; I didn't sleep much myself (due to starting The Great Ace Attorney), so apologies in advance if I don't type well @Blaine_Volpe/1420904905213194242
-
ok I’m in
-
DSA would probably be a faster-growing political affiliation than “Independent” if it were measured in the same way
-
Link to yesterday’s thread, for reference: @cooljeanius/1420853241714286594
-
.@JulieCR46 touting some accomplishments of the Biden Administration; good to hear a speaker here sticking up for Democratic accomplishments rather than muddying the waters with “both-sides” bipartisanship
-
#BuildBackBetter
-
So, since the topic is infrastructure, I’d like to point out that the bipartisan bill is extremely watered down, and that all the good stuff is in the reconciliation bill that’s going to pass with only Democratic support
-
“The pandemic affected people of both parties equally” ok someone go get @charles_gaba’s charts correlating party affiliation with vaccination rates
-
.@JulieCR46 has @gabe_uy here along with her, too
-
reconciliation bill is better reconciliation bill is better reconciliation bill is better reconciliation bill is better reconciliation bill is better reconciliation bill is better reconciliation bill is better reconciliation bill is better reconciliation bill is better
-
ok phew she’s finally acknowledging the importance of also having the separate reconciliation bill, too
-
good to hear they’re concerned about the eviction moratorium ending; shoutout to consumerfinance.gov/renthelp
-
I need to get in touch with @BillMoen about moving to New Jersey…
-
so yeah remember to get vaccinated, people (if you haven’t yet already)
-
state roll call now
-
oh boo someone from ALEC is here; they’re that group that’s responsible for all those bad bills that we constantly have to fight back against
-
shoutout to the Tappan Zee
-
break time
-
k we’re back
-
oh looks like we actually get to choose our breakout rooms this time
-
post-lunch tiredness kicking in for me
-
hey @postlocal do more coverage of Maryland’s legislature
-
people being so purposeful with their social media is so weird to me; I just use mine as a mind-dump space so thoughts don’t die unexpressed in my head
-
yeah IMO verification doesn’t really make as much sense for NH state legislature members as it does in other states; there are too many of us and lots of us just aren’t notable. I don’t want to be verified because then people would expect me to act all serious and official.
-
Let me be off-brand.
-
Yeah sorry but I’m not doing Instagram until they get broken back off from Facebook, and I’m not doing TikTok until they stop being a Chinese intel op
-
ok done with that round of breakout rooms
-
Now speaking: @evanspiegel of @Snap (sorry but my preferred “SNAP” is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a.k.a. Food Stamps, which is what I use to buy my food)
-
I’m not entirely sure what the connection to legislation is here
-
ok they’re tying it more into political issues now; touching on education and free speech
-
Right Mahanoy Area School District v. B.L. was about a post made on Snapchat, i.e., this guy’s platform: aclu.org/cases/mahanoy-area-school-district-v-bl
-
Despite being about a post made on their platform, it doesn’t look like Snapchat bothered to file a brief of amicus curiae on the case, though: scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/mahanoy-area-school-district-v-b-l/
-
Snap guy wants online voting; that is a very bad idea. Online registration? Sure, that’s fine, but having the actual voting online would just lead to it getting majorly hacked.
-
Since we’re talking tech policy, a reminder for people to check out the “SOFTWARE Act” bill that I’m working on here: github.com/cooljeanius/legislation/blob/master/tech/SOFTWARE_Act.txt
-
“We didn’t have the resources to know about this case before its results were announced” dude you are worth $13.8 billion dollars; you had enough resources
-
oh well looks like I didn’t get time for a follow-up question
-
I’m always weirded out whenever I’m reminded of other legislators in other states having staff
-
anyways, break again
-
onto breakout rooms again; I’m in the Energy & Environment one
-
.@autumnproudlove is giving us info about what states are doing on energy policy
-
Net metering shoutout! I don’t think we’ve managed to pass that yet in NH, have we? #NHPolitics
-
.@chrisleehawaii telling us about their successes with energy policy in Hawaii
-
.@LIHEAPCampaign shoutout! A lot of southern states don’t really get how big of a deal that is for northern states
-
Back to readouts from the other breakouts… aw boo a guy from Maine who doesn’t like RCV? Maine is a perfect example of why it’s great though!
-
so this group apparently actually has caucuses in some legislatures; I don’t think we have one here in NH though…
-
ok we're done; #2021FutureSummit is over
