Tonight’s #DSACon2021 videoconferences will be starting in a bit; my thread for tonight starts here. As previously, a reminder that you can use the “OR” operator in Twitter’s advanced search to combine the multiple hashtags being used for it: twitter.com/search?q=%23DSACon21%20OR%20%23DSACon2021%20OR%20%23DSAConvention21%20OR%20%23DSAConvention2021%20OR%20%22DSA%20Convention%22&src=typed_query&f=live

Starting off with committee reports; they’re purely informational tonight, and we won’t be voting on them.
-
first is the labor committee
-
Shoutout to @labornotes
-
Some breakdown of what industries DSA union members are in
-
#OrganizeYourWorkplace
-
#GreenNewDeal campaign reporting back now; I already kinda heard from them at one of the previous panels…
-
so yeah, the combination of Bernie’s campaign ending with the pandemic hitting kinda made things hard for DSA’s #GreenNewDeal campaign
-
Talking about bringing together labor groups and environmentalists now. #PassThePROAct
-
Good to hear major parts of the #PROAct are going to be in the upcoming budget reconciliation bill! More evidence that the reconciliation bill is better than the bipartisan infrastructure one!
-
Next up is the #M4A committee report
-
so yeah similar struggles of Bernie campaign ending + pandemic hitting here, too
-
hm @JabariBrisport I think I’ve heard that name before
-
so yeah the #ForceTheVote issue caused problems for DSA’s #M4A campaign… organizer is acknowledging that they made some decent points that they noted, but still, it was under the “challenges” section.
-
National Electoral Committee reporting back now
-
Yeah @JamaalBowmanNY and @CoriBush! Love them!
-
Sounds like the Portland Maine chapter got some cool ballot initiatives passed!
-
National Political Education Committee is reporting back now
-
so yeah not much to say about that one
-
whoa we’re actually ending early!
-
Opening plenary with @Indiawaltonbflo is up next
-
ok new Zoom is open; 1 minute until speech
-
There was a bit of echo to start, but now it’s fixed
-
ok she has been introduced and has her turn now
-
so yeah it sounds like the mayor she primaried is running a write-in campaign for the general now; she’ll still need support!
-
speech portion is done now; introducer is starting a Q&A session with her now
-
She seems to have some cool ideas about housing!
-
yeah good question about the intersection of leftism and nursing; there seems to be a pretty big overlap there
-
Good to hear that the Buffalo Dems aren't actually being that hostile now that she's their nominee! Apparently it's just the mayor she primaried that's a sore loser...
-
Creating offices of sustainability is a good thing! Good to hear she’s got plans for one!
-
ok Q&A with @Indiawaltonbflo is over; debate blocks are next. #DSACon21
-
…is this really going to be 3-and-a-half straight hours with no breaks? I dunno if I’ll be able to make it that long…
-
R.I.P. @RichardTrumka
-
First thing we have to consider is the order of business
-
First up is a point of order about Kara H. being removed from the slate of candidates available to elect… getting straight into the drama, I see.
-
The Airtable form appears to have been updated to be faster than it was previously.
-
Kara H. is @karrrahall btw: twitter.com/karrrahall?s=21
-
motion to reorder something
-
why did I ever sign up for this
-
order of business finally adopted
-
blah, tech issues
-
onto the consent agenda
-
voting to call the question; let’s get going already
-
wow, almost a tie
-
so, on these motions to remove stuff from the consent agenda, I’m voting no on all of them, not on the substance of any them, but just in the interest of hoping things go faster
-
ok I think we’re done removing stuff from the consent agenda now; time to vote on the consent agenda as a whole
-
consent agenda passes; someone wants to do a motion to censure over some drama…
-
never mind
-
Time to discuss Resolution 14, on internationalism, which was removed from the consent agenda.
-
oh right this is the one about whether to ally with tankies…
-
Yeah if the proponents of this are pro-Maduro, then I’m against this (even though I voted to keep it on the consent agenda previously; that was just because I was lazy)
-
#NoOnR14
-
Dilma Roussef isn’t quite that bad; I wouldn’t use her as an example of a bad person to be allied with. Just keep the focus on Maduro.
-
Just say no to tankies. Vote no on R14. #DSACon21
-
R14 passes; oh well. Onto R32, on strengthening YDSA (which was removed from the consent calendar). I don’t know which way I’m going to vote on this yet.
-
I guess the main objection here is just the price tag? I thought we liked spending money here…
-
Yeah it sounds like this resolution would do too much splitting up; let’s keep YDSA and DSA closer together (which I guess means voting no)
-
ok so yeah I’m voting no on R32 but my feelings still aren’t too strong on it; I’d be ok if it passes. Vote your conscience on R32. #DSACon21
-
R32 fails… how was that one ever on the consent calendar in the first place? Anyways, motioning to recess now…
-
Done for tonight; I’ll do a new thread for tomorrow
