Dang it, I meant to do stuff before tonight’s #DSAConvention debate block, but didn’t manage to… oh well. Last night’s thread, for reference: @cooljeanius/1423386371188740103?s=21
-
ok the Zoom session is kicking off now
-
debating amendments to amendments! You’d think serving in one legislative body would have me got me tired enough of legislative procedure, but nope, I guess I didn’t learn my lesson…
-
First up is a constitution & bylaws amendment to strike regional requirements from the charter. Undecided on this; will listen to debate.
-
.@HondaWang speaking in favor of CB1; it’s so weird hearing socialists making fiscally conservative arguments, lol (that’s not necessarily a critique, btw!)
-
Reminder to #PassthePROAct about these union support concerns
-
I’m confused by this whole amendment-to-an-amendment thing
-
I might just abstain here
-
tech issues leading to a (possible) recess
-
ok sounds like we’re back
-
I think CB1 passed; onto CB5, on electing DSA’s national leadership
-
CB5 seems pretty reasonable; I’m leaning towards it… I can see there being an argument against it based on being tired of voting on stuff, but if I don’t want to vote on stuff in the future, I just won’t. Abstention is always an option.
-
Motion to divide; ugh…
-
motion to divide failed, so we’re voting on CB5 as a whole next. I’m still leaning in favor of it; democracy is good.
-
Next is CB4, on electing DSA’s National Director. I think I’ll vote yes on this one, too.
-
The argument that “this isn’t a politicized position” goes against my view that EVERYTHING is politicized; there’s no such thing as a non-political position.
-
and, as I argued on the previous motion, if you’re tired of there being too many elections (which is a valid complaint), just don’t vote in them. No one’s forcing you to vote in all these new votes being created.
-
While we’re voting on CB4, results for CB5 are back: it failed. Oh well, whatever, I didn’t really care that much anyways.
-
next up are the NPC recommendations
-
CB4 fails, too
-
This recommendation on state-level organizing sounds good
-
NPC1-R1 passes on acclamation
-
undecided on NPC2-R2, on growing DSA staff
-
now discussing NPC3-R3, on standardization of committees… undecided on this as well
-
Stuff passes on acclamation. We’ve hit the end of the block and are motioning to recess now.
-
OK we’re done. I’ll be back with a new thread tomorrow. #DSACon2021
