  1. This article on Marx working for Horace Greeley (a Republican originally from New Hampshire) has been on my mind again: americanheritage.com/when-karl-marx-worked-horace-greeley #NHPolitics #NHHistory

Greeley: “Marx has very decided opinions of his own, with some of which we are far from agreeing, but those who do not read his letters are neglecting one of the most instructive sources of information on the great questions of current European politics.” archive.org/details/horacegreeleycha00will/page/135/mode/2up

Can you imagine any Republican nowadays saying anything similar about Marx? They’re all trying to ban him now instead with censorship bills like HB1255 instead. Are we going to have a bill to take down the historical marker for Greeley’s birthplace in Amherst next?

I mean, after all, some have called Greeley a socialist, too: jstor.org/stable/43460290

How about Greeley Ponds, are today’s Republicans going to have to make us rename those too? nhfamilyhikes.com/hikes.php?hike=Greeley%20Ponds&from=HBN-G After all, if kids bothered to look up their namesake they might learn about the whole party realignment thing, and today’s GOP can’t allow that!

Update: I’ve since learned that the Greeley Ponds off of East Osceola are NOT actually named after Horace Greeley, but rather after the unrelated(?) Nathaniel Greeley instead… I dunno how I got the idea into my head that they were named after Horace, but, apparently, I was wrong

(I’d thought my Dad had been the one who’d told me they were named after Horace Greeley, but he denies it, and was the one who found out they were actually named after Nathaniel, so… yeah, dunno where that memory came from…)
