This is probably the first time in all the pandemic when I've been grateful to my mask for helping to keep me warm from the cold, besides just protecting me from the virus... and that includes both previous winters! Certainly chilly!
-
Anyways, the #SOFTWAREAct hearing is coming up in a bit! Looking forward to it!
-
ok I gave my testimony... Commissioner Goulet of the Department of IT is testifying against it now...
-
he's bringing up the log4j exploit... that's actually a point in favor of FOSS, not against it, because being FOSS allowed it to be patched by just a random person who noticed it. #SOFTWAREAct
-
Thank you to John "maddog" Hall for his testimony on behalf of my #SOFTWAREAct! He's this guy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Hall_(programmer)
-
Some guy from Keene with a @conservancy t-shirt is testifying on behalf of the #SOFTWAREAct now; I didn't quite catch his name, though...
-
We're kind of overflowing our time slot here; sorry that it's so complicated!
-
I forgot to give my disclaimer for testimony following my own; sorry...
-
Wikipedia mention! Nice!
-
there's such a thing as a "tech dominatrix" apparently
-
ok that's it for my #SOFTWAREAct, time for @eukreign's own open source bill
-
so yeah I testified about his, too
-
oh right I forgot to bring up the "free" vs. "open-source" distinction when testifying about the difference between my bill and @eukreign's bill; thanks to @maddoghall for catching that for me... (although I would have described the distinction slightly differently myself)
-
ok done with ED&A for the day; next is the Education Committee...
-
update: found out the names of two testifiers whose names I missed previously: Christopher Waid was the guy with the @conservancy t-shirt, and Josh Coffin was the guy who brought up the "tech dominatrix"
-
In the Education hearing room now; most people are out to lunch now, so there's just a few people chatting...
-
Education is gaveling back in now; there's another bill scheduled before the one I'm here for...
-
HB1574, which would prevent the University System of NH from charging out-of-state tuition to students who vote here, is the bill that's scheduled first. Introducer didn't have much to say about it, but now @TimothyHorrigan is testifying against it...
-
yeah this bill (HB1574) seemed like it made sense at 1st, but after hearing more testimony about it, it seems like a bad idea; proponents want to cut administrative costs to pay for it, but the woman from the university system testifying explained how it'd actually increase costs
-
it seems that the only way to make up for the lost revenue here would be to raise taxes, but of course Republicans aren't going to go for that, so instead it'd probably just result it the further weakening of the university system here...
-
Moving onto the bill I'm here for (HB1648) perfectly on time! It's @tonylabranche's bill, so he's introducing it. It's on mental health peer support groups.
-
.@MeganMurray4NH also spoke in favor of this mental health bill. Now Sharon from the university system is testifying; she says she respects the intent behind the bill, but can't support it as written... darn...
-
Tom Cronin of the university system now giving similar testimony to what Sharon said ("Yes, mental health is important, but we have concerns, etc. etc.")
-
I guess Tom Cronin is @TPCronin
-
lots of questions for the university system people
-
ok I gave my testimony in support of mental health; time to head home...
-
I’m realizing I may have misspoke earlier today in my testimony on the #SOFTWAREAct before ED&A: after further thought, I don’t think the noncompete portion would actually override federal security clearance protocols after all, but I’m willing to request an amendment to clarify.
-
Here’s a GitHub commit that addresses the security clearance provision; I haven’t requested that OLS draft it as an official amendment yet, though: github.com/cooljeanius/legislation/commit/4ba7d3ddb8829e28e573c229f970d7475c88e3fd
