I'm back in MCG again... only hearing one bill today before we go into executive session: HB1665, which would establish a municipal road and bridge disaster relief fund.

Rep. Judy Aron is telling us about recent flooding in Acworth.

I'm reminded of the October 2005 floods in Alstead, but I can only find a few sentences about those in the Alstead Wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alstead,_New_Hampshire

Meanwhile the floods the next spring in the rest of the state (including Concord) have their entire own article (which I've edited): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_New_England_flood

The floods Rep. Aron is telling us about were in 2021, though

apparently the floods in 2005 and 2006 mostly just damaged state roads, while these most recent ones damaged municipal roads

interesting how the sponsor list for this is mostly Republicans (only Dem in the sponsor list that jumps out at me is @kahnjay), when "bridges and roads" is primarily an argument that Dems use against Libertarians...
        1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
I like the idea behind this bill, since I like roads and bridges, but it sounds like there are some drafting issues with it that might require an amendment...

Republicans know the term "mutual aid"! :-O
            1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
I wonder if they know the anarcho-socialist meaning of "mutual aid" as defined by Kropotkin, or if they're using the term more informally...

OTP motion for 1046 fails along party lines, 10-9, which seems odd, since it didn't seem like a partisan bill?

Closest thing to an argument I've heard from Republicans against HB1046 is that they think HB1397 replaces it, but... it doesn't? That's just about term length for Rockingham County officers, which is a completely separate issue from how Sullivan County elects its officers.

motion to ITL HB1046 passes by the same margin that the motion to OTP it failed by; on to HB1112...

HB1112 is @JulieDGilman1's bill for competitive bidding in all NH counties, which she thought to file after we killed a similar bill to do so for just Carroll County last year, on the grounds that it ought to be for all counties instead.

now Republicans want to ITL this bill because they don't think it should actually be for all counties after all

Motion to ITL HB1112 passes 10-9 along party lines; Republicans have no interest in remaining internally consistent, it seems
