  1. Maggie is going to lose her base if she tries to separate herself from Biden by running to his right; Biden has been doing a much better job than she has.       Now if she wanted to separate herself from Biden by running to his *left*, like neighboring senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Ed Markey all do, that would be a good way to go about it, but I highly doubt that's what Joe meant.

        Here's an example of how Maggie could separate herself from Biden by running to his left (instead of to his right) in a way that would help her win here: make a big marijuana legalization push. It's a position that's hugely popular in NH that, AFAIK, Biden still opposes.
