(wi-fi isn't too great here, so posting might be difficult)
-
.@VoteForSho is kicking us off! #NHDPConvention2022 #NHPolitics
-
also Peter @ArgeropoulosNH too
-
.@CoraQuisumbing does the land acknowledgment for the Penacook, Abenaki, and Wabanaki
-
.@MayorJoyceCraig welcomes us to Manchester... Queen City Pride is later today, apparently
-
.@ChairmanBuckley is acknowledging... well, pretty much everyone, it seems!
-
(so, correction about wi-fi status: posting is fine, it's the loading of images that's broken for me here; I won't be retweeting any pictures posted by others today until I can see them later)
-
.@TomShermanNH accepts the Peter Burling legislative award
-
.@MfclarkMartha of the credentials committee celebrates our return to holding an in-person convention, acknowledging that some are still attending online (so technically it's hybrid)
-
So, apparently voting on stuff is going to be open for 2 weeks actually, which means the results won't be announced until later...(?)
-
.@SenatorShaheen @JeanneShaheen introducing our two guests, Governor Pritzker of Illinois and Secretary Marty Walsh, and is now speaking about how things are going in Washington.
-
Thanks to Senator Shaheen for acknowledging renters exist! Too often when politicians talk housing it's just about home ownership.
-
Dunno about her criticism of Sununu for having BEA handle housing instead of NHHFA though; I mean yes the NHHFA is great and @bfrostNHHFA in particular is amazing, but my dad's office is currently part of BEA, though, & they do actually have some decent housing people there, too
-
Hm interesting hearing Kuster including the COMPETES Act in the list of legislation she's promoting today, since I think it's one of the good anti-trust bills that Sen. Hassan isn't on board with yet? Anyways thanks to Rep. Kuster for supporting it!
-
Now @RepChrisPappas @ChrisPappasNH gets his turn to speak; glad he included the #PROAct on his list of legislation he's proud of! (even if it did stall in the Senate; hopefully it gets another chance to revive...)
-
one of the benefits of Chris Pappas having so many opponents in the GOP primary to oppose him is that it grants a wealth of material to highlight bad things an opponent might do
-
"keep our parties strong" uh... plural? There's only one party being represented here; this is the DEM convention, Hassan.
-
So, speaking of listening to people from New Hampshire... have you accepted your invitation to the @AFSCNH @NHChurches forum on welcoming immigrants yet, Sen. Hassan?
-
Sen. Hassan is presenting a "Spirit of Opportunity" award to @AlexisSimpsonNH now; good choice! Rep. Simpson deserves it; she's great!
-
.@SenCavanaugh talks about how Joyce Craig used the example of Marty Walsh to convince him to run for office
-
lol someone apparently asked @MartyJWalsh if he's going to be running for president; DC press just can't seem to let go of the "Dems are going to replace Biden" narrative, despite keeping getting told no. Sec. Walsh is from Mass.! Right next door! He comes here all the time!
-
There are other reasons to come to New Hampshire besides running for president, you know. Anyways, Secretary Walsh has been a great Secretary of Labor so far, and I'm extremely grateful for how pro-labor his @USDOL has been! #1u
-
There's been a lot of legislation being discussed lately that I'm kind of losing track off; I forgot which one the Innovation Act was: @RonaldKlain/1537965339845111808
-
Interesting summary of what Republicans have been doing to our state this term; I need to go review all of my livetweet threads from this term to figure out how I'd summarize it myself; I feel like some stuff got left out
-
Matt Wilhelm talking up the importance of @DVCC2022 in flipping back state government; lots of booing for Jason Osborne, the Free State Project, and Frank Edelblut. Good strategy to make Osborne (in)famous IMO; it worked when defeating Bill O'Brien last decade.
-
...I... thought the Jan. 6 resolution vote wasn't actually held by roll call? Guess I'm misremembering...
-
We have candidates in 390 house seats this election! That's pretty impressive!
-
Anyways @RepWilhelm's speech has been the best speech of the day so far; really grateful to have him sticking up for the importance of the state/local level! #NHPolitics
-
.@DonnaSoucy giving us the view from the State Senate
-
Sen. Soucy acknowledges the contested primary between Donovan Fenton and Bobby "Spike" Williams, without giving preference to either, so that's good; glad to see the party staying impartial in that race.
-
Now @CindeWarmington is telling us about how things are going with the Executive Council; it's kind of a shame that we *still* have to explain to people what the Executive Council even is; it's (in theory) a good check on gubernatorial power that more states should consider.
-
So, I've endorsed Councilor Warmington in her contested primary vs. Mike Cryans, but I feel like she still should have at least acknowledged him when listing the EC candidates, like Sen. Soucy did with the primary between Fenton & Williams... (unless I missed it)
-
.@TomShermanNH talking about his run to replace Sununu as governor... his nickname of "The Crisis Governor" for Sununu could be improved by making it alliterative, IMO: "Crisis Chris"
-
Good reminder how Sununu's claim that he couldn't veto the latest budget is bogus: he *did* actually veto the 2019 budget that Democrats passed.
-
Next up is @GovPritzker; tbh I was kind of skeptical of him when he first ran due to him being a billionaire, but from what I hear of his record so far, he's actually done a good job getting Dem policies passed in Illinois, so good on him for exceeding my expectations!
-
Huh I didn't realize that Gov. Pritzker came from a Ukrainian-American family! Interesting!
-
Gov. Pritzker raised Illinois's minimum wage to $15 an hour and legalized cannabis there, both good things that we're still needing to fight to get all Dems on board with here in New Hampshire.
-
lol at this story of Gov. Pritzker trying to get PPE from the Trump administration
-
I like Gov. Pritzker's sense of humor
-
So yeah pretty good speech by Governor Pritzker! If he manages to give away enough of his wealth to fall off the billionaires list by 2028, he could make a pretty good presidential candidate!
-
So yeah tomorrow's going to be Juneteenth! @Melanie4NH is marking it for us today, since we won't be here tomorrow.
-
Shoutout to @JordanforNH!
-
.@NHCardona603 is marking Pride Month for us, or rather to introduce @DanaHilliard_NH to us to do so.
-
.@HunterPorter603 is here to give us an update on how the @NHYoungDems and related groups are doing.
-
.@BetteLasky has an update for us from the Resolutions Committee
-
Interesting that Sen. Lasky chose to lead with the "Honoring our Federal Delegation" resolution, considering that that one has been the most controversial among groups I'm part of, and was the only resolution I voted against for this convention.
-
Also I didn't quite catch if she included @NHSebastian603's resolution about immigration in her run-down of resolutions? I don't think she did... Anyways, moment of silence for those we've lost this year...
-
.@CindyR4NH has a report for us from the Platform Committee; kinda disappointed with myself that I didn't manage to make it to one of their listening sessions this year... I think the time I did was in 2020...
-
Yeah it was from early in 2020, so, just before the pandemic had reached "affecting everyday life in the US" levels: @cooljeanius/1235648329964556288
-
Sounds like we're wrapping up! I'm kinda disappointed that we didn't get the results of the resolution votes today, as I thought that that's what the whole point of the convention, but I guess it makes sense to give people more time; I almost forgot to vote myself...
-
ok so yeah time to go
