@Con_Palos Hm that got me curious and apparently it's due to the California Current flowing from north to south, bringing cold water down, while the Gulf Stream flows south to north, bringing warm water up (the Gulf Stream misses the Gulf of Maine, though, due to Cape Cod deflecting it)
