    1. So, as someone who has criticized Shinzo Abe for being farther right than I’d like in the past, I’d just like to say that I absolutely condemn the assassination attempt against him. Political violence has no place in democratic societies.

    As a side note, Japan still has the death penalty. While I condemn this assassination attempt, I oppose any attempt to sentence the shooter to death for it, as I oppose the death penalty in general. Sentence the shooter to life in prison instead (assuming he’s convicted)
