                                                      1. Another "so cold the mask is primarily for warmth" type day out there... I forgot my binder of notes on bills for today's executive session, so I'll have to just be looking up everything from my previous threads... #NHPolitics

attendance seems... sparser today; Rep. Lascelles is taking over Rep. Piemonte's position as vice chair

so yeah consensus on HB1238 seems to be that it won't do much... looks like we're going to ITL it...

HB1238 is ITL-ed unanimously, 16-0... there was some fear that voting against this might get portrayed as being "anti-housing", but since it ended up being unanimous against it, I guess we don't have to worry about that; seemed pretty clear we were all just objecting to details

Republicans are making the ITL motion on this, so hopefully this one will be unanimous, too

HB1267 is also ITL-ed unanimously, 16-0... phew, I didn't even have to raise my free speech points against it; we killed it without me having to say anything!

HB1268 passes along party lines (didn't quite catch the exact vote total); next is HB1272, to limit the authority of town health officers

motion of OTP on 1272 passes along party lines, 9-7, so I'm assuming that's what the margin was for HB1268, too...

so, consensus seems to be that while OHRV noise complaints are a legitimate issue, tax abatements aren't the right way to go about fixing it

yeah this reasoning wasn't really that convincing to us: @cooljeanius/1493654485163560971

my preferred solution would be just to ban the sale and possession of OHRVs (and really all internal combustion engine powered vehicles altogether, tbh), but that probably won't happen...

looks like, instead of ITL-ing, we might be moving to interim study instead?
  1. …in reply to @cooljeanius
so yeah HB1289 goes to interim study instead of being ITL-ed; there were 3 "no" votes, so I guess that makes the margin 13-3?

Next: HB1293, preventing people from designing their own septic systems (which... what? Why could they in the first place? I'm guessing the Free Staters had something to do with it...)

this is a perfect example of something where the application of Mill's Harm Principle might not seem obvious at first, but becomes more obvious the more you think about it (poor septic design affects entire communities!)
